I’m currently reading Michael Moore’s book: “Stupid White Men”.
While my bus sat in gridlock for 30 minutes this morning, Moore offered me a sudden flash of inspiration..
Literacy.
I want to improve the literacy of someone, somewhere.
(Relax Dad, I’m not thinking of becoming an English teacher.. yet :P)
I can reed and rite. Could I not use my talents for good rather than evil?
I’m sure with a little practice, some death-stares, and random beatings with newspapers, I could help someone improve their reading and writing. In the process I would be helping myself feel slightly less useless. What an interesting idea.
Stay tuned.
BTW: Grant cooks a lovely salmon with hollandaise-sauce.
2005-12-16 Update
I’ve since found this FAQ discussing Adult Literacy teacher training, this list of Endorsed Initial Teacher Training Qualifications(FE) and this London-based ESOL, Literacy and Numeracy Teacher Training Project website.
Yah! I was hoping I might get a mention ๐
It would be unjust to leave you and your salmon unmentioned. hehe ๐
Cool. Come to Africa with me next year and we can teach some kids while we learn heaps more.
When are you going?
R u interested in sharing your literacy talents or do you just want people not to get it rong??!!
Stop using your blog to record your links for later, runnerman
pb:
It’s totally selfish – I want job/life satisfaction and I had the silly idea that helping people read and write might get me that satisfaction.
Of course, what I really want is a job that pays me a fortune to do whatever the hell I want.
Tam:
What’s wrong with using my blog for bookmarks? Are you a compulsive link follower and just HAVE to click, thereby ending up disappointed with my boring links? Suffer in your jocks ultrawench! ๐
"It’s my blog and I’ll link crap if I want to, link crap if I want to.."
Stuart: Don’t know when I’m going. But I am. One day.
BUT!!! Why would you need tonnes of money if you’re doing what you want to do anyway? Money would be far less relevant if you’re totally satisfied. And I don’t mean (just) sexually.
I’m an ultrawench, I’m so cool.
Ant:
I don’t need tonnes of money, I just need enough to do what I want to do.
To survive for the rest of my life doing what I want to do though (i.e. not working) requires a bucket load of funds, you have to admit. Unless I found a job that I love that pays enough. My personality type seems to indicate that I will never be happy with any one job.
Tam:
Yeah. Now go run 50k or something!
*crosses fingers for snow in Prague*
And so say all of us. Sort of. I don’t want to be rich. I may have the potential to be famous with the possibliity of financial wealth, but I may forgoe that to lead a happier life motivated by more puritan causes. I will say no more than that. On a public blog. Await my email…
Stuarts personality type… hmmm… lets see… nope… can’t put my finger on it…
I wouldn’t _mind_ being rich, but it’s no longer a goal. I just want enough money to do what I want, within reason. I’m not into yachts, fancy restaurants, gold watches and that shite, but I’d like to be able to buy a new bike, pay rent, eat "ok" food, bike another bike, go see Franz Ferdinand, travel to Eygypt, blah blah you get the idea. What I do now, just with a bit more money and I’d love to not have to do this job. If I could just find work that was interesting and didn’t do my head in after 2 days..
I did a Myers-Briggs test once. It’s probably at home though. I THINK I might’ve been an ENTP:
http://www.typelogic.com/en…
"love to argue"
"perverse sense of humor"
"cut corners without regard to the rules"
"very fond of "toys" but "tend to tire of these quickly, however"
"basically optimists" but "tend to become extremely petulant about small setbacks and inconveniences"
"little patience with those they consider wrongheaded or unintelligent"
"extremely genial, if not charming" (haha) "when not being harassed by life in general"
Anyone reading this will be pleased to know "ENTPs are also good at acquiring friends who are as clever and entertaining as they are" ๐
"ENTPs tend to be oblivious of the rest of humanity"
