Powertap!

Powertap SL

Buying an expensive carbon race machine wasn’t enough of a dent to the bank account so I decided to buy a Powertap power meter as well. Got a reasonable price for a low-mileage (2500k) Powertap SL laced to Open Pro 32h wheelset and fitted them to the S-Works.

I’ve been out for two easy rides with it since fitting and I’ve grabbed a demo version of TrainingPeaks WKO+ after reading about this package on Liz Randall’s cycling blog. I’ve ordered yet another cycling book (I’m addicted to amazon.co.uk!) that covers training with power but at the moment I know basically nothing! Good timing then that my coach has also recently acquired a Powertap! 🙂

I’ve started making pretty (meaningless) graphs..

If anyone can tell me how to use this kit I’d appreciate it 😉

  1. I didn’t say that..

For too long I’ve been mocking those with ‘all the gear and no idea’ and now I get to play their part! 🙂

  2. Hm. But at least you’re doing a lot of riding. At some point you will presumably decide to put some of that into seeing how fast you can go?

  3. You trust forecasts this far out? Ha!

I did the turbo session last night and my butt disagrees with the Toupe. I might try again on Sat and if it’s still not right I’ll put an SLR on and bring an allen key.

Then I also have an excuse to stop and take a breather "oh just need to move this back a little.." hehehe

  4. Even the coffee/cake stops will be meticulously timed 😀

Haven’t got a clue about route yet, just thinking of getting as many miles as possible in…

  5. Trying to kill me or something?!

Sat doesn’t look good but I’m going to try swapping the Toupe for the SLR and then tweaking its location. With any luck I’ll get it right and the distance will breeze by..

I checked trains. Looks like there’s one leaving Livpool at 8ish that should get there before 9.30. Might just rock up with my fingers crossed..

  6. Yeah, I just meant on Sat I would try to swap out the saddle. It usually ends in tears when I do last-minute tweaks.
