Some bastard is blowing up Melbourne!!!

What? Oh, It’s the Commonwealth Games fireworks? Right.. Carry on..

So what was all that like for you locals? It looked pretty impressive to me on the box. Looks like BBC is covering the whole lot here. I’d checked the guides for the cycling but actually being near a tv when it’s on is unlikely. 7-11am, 1-2pm and 3-4pm, 6.30-7.30pm, 10-11pm tomorrow we have live cycling. 7-10.30am, 2-3pm, 16.30-17.30, 23.30-2am Friday too. Ahh fuggit, I’ll read cyclingnews. Pittman vs. Lewis: Just get out the baby oil and sort out your differences with some wrestling!

Almost made myself crook on this morning’s commute.. but none of those bastards got past me and that’s all that matters 😉

Decided I really need my HRM back and some structure to my riding. Blasting around for 35min twice a day isn’t working out for me. It’s hella fun but my endurance has been shot to bits and I just don’t think I’d be much chop racing when summer rolls around. Still waiting for my first pay cheque.. grrr.. come on you bastards.. I have a stimulant habit to support..

  1. I went to the opening ceremony and it was AWESOME! I especially loved the flying tram and the guys on roller skates with the fireworks on their backs.

  2. I missed the flying tram. Mum rang me up and told me all about it. I had heard about it before, and I do hope it wasn’t as corny as those freaking kangaroos on bikes for the ‘lympics.

I heard the fireworks from Chadstone about half an hour before I saw them on TV. Delayed broadcast because the ads were more important than the opening, or so they could screen out any terrorist attacks on the MGC (lead by evil mean terrorists on bikes — amazing how much C4 you can pack down the down tube).

I had my first shift on a citybike trike thingy today. For a 3 hour shift, I got one passenger for 20 minutes. A $20 fare. I did see a lot of those ambulance mountain bikes though. That’s a pretty cool gig.

  3. I have looked, dad has looked and we haven’t come up with the hrm yet! You know how much stuff there is, and I can’t shift all the big items. I’ll try again tomorrow.

  4. PS don’t worry, we don’t see direct telecast all the time anyway. Baz listened on radio only to find out it was on telly about 20mins later!

  5. Suzie: Didn’t see the flying tram but I did see the flaming bladers. "Don’t fall over.."

TimC: Citybike? Ambulance MTBs? Guess I need to catch up on your blog or a.b or both..

pb: Don’t stress, I’m working on improving my ESP so I should be able to find them myself from over here. I’ll let you know 🙂

As expected, I missed all the cycling but I did read that Kersten won the Kilo. Yes!

The digital tv over here is pretty cool – I can bring up multiple sports coverage or see the medal tally or textual news reports.. all kinds of stuff. Digital radio is available here too but the receivers are pretty expensive.

I still don’t have a stereo! I think it’s only the vaste quantities of beer available to me that has stopped me going totally insane without my tunes.

Need to buy those Carl Cox tickets soon..

  6. Bugger, can’t find any GIFs of the ambo bikes on the intarweb. Anyhoo, the justification is that they are a lot quicker to get through crowds and closed off roads in the games. They have a large rack bag thingy (not pannier — goes ontop of a rack) complete with minature defibrulator.

And I work for these guys. The plan was to make some money and not increase my debt quite so quickly. Plan is failing miserably. Hopefully act will pick up quickly when they complete the credit card and booking systems.

  7. Ahh, these bikes are all over London and most other major euro cities..

Bike jobs are done for love not money 🙂
