Probably the coolest video I’ve seen on YouTube! Awesome shots as a courier chases a blader around London. Watch it, NOW!

I posted this originally on Jan 11 but this is a new (even better) edit.

Thanks to fixed.org.au for the new version.

Car = success? Um.. nope. (But can I use VS 2005 now anyway? Pretty please?)

Forget cars! Here’s the longest in-competition trackstand I’ve seen:

Munich 6 Day – Hoy vs. Wolf

I don’t get to see Chris Hoy attempt the Kilo world record (or at least prep. for his attempt) on the Friday at the Manchester WC but he’s racing the sprints as well.

Anyone know if we have any Aussies racing at the World Cup?

I think I’ll get to the next round of London roller racing too – looks like a big one: The Rapha Roller Race ? Culture Clash

Australian car sales slump as buyers go for imports & BIKES

Bikes Rule!

The Australian car industry is reeling from a dramatic slump in sales, with petrol-price conscious consumers turning in massive numbers from locally made vehicles to smaller imports and bicycles.

Sales of Australian-made cars collapsed from almost 250,000 in 2005 to just 201,623 last year ? a drop of almost 20 per cent, according to preliminary figures released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.

For those in the bike business, however, it’s a different story, with bicycle sales out-stripping vehicle sales for the seventh consecutive year last year, according to the Cycling Promotion Fund.

Australian bike sales extended their lead over cars for 2006, with almost 1.3 million sold. Cool, lots of hard rubbish when I get back!

CPF spokesman Ian Christie said bike sales had extended their lead on car sales by 300,000 last year ? a sales edge that comfortably exceeds the total sales of market-leader Toyota.

Bicycle Victoria facilities development manager Jason Denhollander (Dutchy been busy?) said the increase was due to a combination of elements.

“There is no one silver bullet to it, it’s a mix of rising petrol prices, people finding public transport more crowded and health and fitness,” he said.

Mr Denhollander said latest Bicycle Victoria figures showed there was a 15 to 20 per cent increase on the number of cyclists entering the CBD between 7am and 9am compared with a year ago.

“That increase would represent about an extra 500 cyclists entering the city,” he said.

Mr Denhollander said cyclist numbers usually dropped 30 to 40% in winter, but that was not the case last year. “In the heart of this winter we had the same numbers as we would have in the peak months of November and March,” he said.“

I'm going to the Manchester World Cup

Manchester

Manchester is one of four major cities on three continents hosting the 2006-07 UCI Track World Cup. The Grand Prix-style competition ranks only behind the World Championships and Olympic Games in prestige.

The Manchester round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup will take place on 23-25 February 2007. Competitors from over 30 nations will be bidding for individual and team titles.

Each round comprises 14 disciplines – eight for men and seven for women. Competition is spread over three days.

Events range in distance from the 500 metres women’s time trial to the 40-kilometre men’s Madison.

Top Gear presenter helps cyclist

Hammond and his wife Mindy helped cyclist Adam Gellatly, 19, when he smashed into a tree at 35mph and was thrown onto the road outside the couple’s home in Redmarley, Gloucestershire, last week.

Hammond later wrote about his encounter with Adam in his column in the Daily Mirror, in which he blasted motorists for their “selfish” attitude towards cyclists.

“I felt much aggrieved on his part and found myself siding with the cyclist against the lunatic motorists wallowing in their air-conditioned luxury, while brave cyclists battled through the elements and tried to avoid getting felled by stray trees,” he wrote.
