Bike Polo?

One of my non-riding friends (thanks Nelsie!) mentioned it to me! Some dudes are starting to play bikepolo on a field in Richmond. I’m gonna give it a go and if I live and I’m not a total embarassment I might do it more than once. I went to Bunnings last night and bought some dowel and a block of wood to construct a mallet from.. if only I could find my cordless drill..

I’ve named the mallet “Carl” after the helpful bloke in the wood department at Bunnings Croydon.

Still need a shitter to ride so I don’t trash my singlespeed. PiledHigher and BikeSoiler have offered up old mtb options.

axlesofevil.org has some bikepolo info as does bikepolo.com.

Hightail Ale discovered as optimum post-ride recovery formula

“Hightail Ale discovered as optimum post-ride recovery formula”

CSIRO scientist Dr. Inkalot revealed today that the specially formulated brew contained the correct balance of carbohydrates, branch chain amino acids, electrolytes, secret herbs and spices and a very special compound known in the trade as “good beer”. Combined as they are, when ingested, these ingredients are absorbed by the body more

rapidly than water or sports drinks to provide the athlete with a super-dense, ultra-fast released source of muscle restoration and energy liberation.

Hippy Headbutts Honda

Head.. meet HondaTake THAT, brain!

“Hypothesis that Hondas Hurt Heads more than Heads Hurt Hondas Holds”

If you are after an anti-car post you’re out of luck – this one was my fault – although if the car wasn’t there I wouldn’t have hit it would I? Hmm.. 😉

So I leave work and make it 1 whole block. Next thing I know my head is bouncing off the back of this black Honda and I’m sprawled over the intersection. That wasn’t supposed to happen?!

I can’t remember if I was looking at a nearby turning car or if I was deciding which side to pass the 4wd on or if I just wasn’t switched on but the car stopped and so did I, somewhat violently into its spare tyre case.

Thanks to the cyclist who stopped and asked if I was okay. Thanks to the drivers for not running me over while I was down. I decided to cut the ride short and just rode home, a little dazed, with a stiff neck and golf ball above my eye (yeah, luckily my head prevented any damage to my expensive helmet!). Mild concussion methinks with a neck sprain?

Bike seems okay but needs further checking when I can see straight 🙂

Gave my details to driver. Wait to see if they want money or if blood was sufficient.

Deposit paid..

Now I sit back and wait for the Cervelo Team Soloist to arrive. I’ll probably spec some stronger wheels (Ultegra hubs, bigass DT spokes, Velocity Fusion rims) for it (I’m such a powerful sprinter I tear the spokes out of the hubs.. yeah right.. ).

It's 1 o'clock in the morning..

and I’m watching the Athens Olympics men’s road time trial in-between fitting new tyres and brake pads to the Pug.

A recent spate of flats means fitting more durable training tyres is a wise idea – at least while I’m in base training just clocking up kays. They have to be more durable than Pro Race. They have to be cheaper than Pro Race. They have to be red. I settled on Schwalbe Stelvio front and rear.

Schwalbe Stelvio Specs:
